Who is this course for?

For Care staff in the public and private sector and family members assisting moving and handling.

What Does the Course Include?

Course content covers relevant theory elements, adopting a person centred approach with consideration of the psycho-social impacts of Assistive handling, positioning and hoisting, hoist anatomy and safe use of hoists, types and consequences of injury, principles of effective movement, legislation (responsibilities and duties) and risk assessment.

  • Range of practical methods using minimally assistive handling methods, aids and equipment.
  • Using a range of mobile hoists, applying/removing a sling (seated and lying transfers)
  • Range of transfers and problem solving. Upon completion of the course delegates will receive a certificate of attendance

Delegates will gain a practical understanding, ability and confidence in;

  • Assistive handling and positioning of a person
  • Hoist safety with the opportunity to become familiarised with and use a range of mobile hoist equipment (Ceiling track is available upon request)
  • Using a wide range of slings (loop and clip attachment, standard universal, in chair, para-silk types and others)
