Moving & Handling People Assessment

Corona Virus Advice

For the attention of ILP clients, customers and healthcare professionals;

Following the statement made by the Prime Minister on Monday 23rd March 2020, the Independent Living Partnership, along with many other companies across the country and the UK, have made the difficult decision to close our doors to client visits - both at The Lantern, and at our other sites across the county in Birdgnorth, Market Drayton, Oswestry and Whitchurch.

We will be offering telephone assessments where feasible to those who have appointments booked with us over the coming weeks, to ensure our clients have access to much needed aids and equipment during this difficult time.

For those who do not wish for a telephone consultation at this time, or for those who's needs may be more complex and therefore a telephone consultation would not suffice (due to limitations and the need to see the client face to face), we are offering the opportunity to rearrange to a more suitable time and date when hopefully the situation has become less challenging.

Clients with appointments booked will be contacted the week before their assessment date to be informed that a telephone consultation will take place instead, or to be offered a new appointment date.

We understand that the situation is less than ideal, but given the circumstances surrounding the seriousness of the Coronavirus, our main concern is keeping our clients, customers and staff safe and well.

Our advice to all is to remain at home, following any instructions given by the government during this time to help ease the impact this disease is having on our communities, hospitals and emergency services.

If you are feeling unwell, or believe to have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus, please follow the advice given on either the government or the NHS websites:

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information on 01743 250 820 or by Email

We thank you for your understanding, and pray you all remain fit and healthy.

The ILP team

Many people who are affected by accident, physical and mental illness, disability or ageing want to stay in their own home but they may find it difficult to move around safely and independently. They may also be supported by their family, or they may have formal care workers coming in to help with daily activities.

The ILP Moving and Handling Advisors can carry out home visits to advise people and their carers and family members in safer handling practices, and can also identify and request equipment to help support people to move around safely within their own home.

A home visit is free of charge to residents of Shropshire, and equipment may be provided free of charge by the Local Authority or Health Service where eligibility applies. Costs will apply where a consultation or equipment provision is outside the remit of our commissioned services.

ILP's Moving and Handling Advisors are Karen Strefford and Amanda Morris. Both have been with ILP since it was first formed and have many years' experience working with clients and carers.

"We always aim to promote independence, and where this might be limited by illness or disability we will work with the client and their carers to find solutions that consider their choices and preferences where possible."
